Seven Rusk High School graduating seniors were presented scholarships of $1000 each at the 2010 RHS
Scholarshp Award Banquet.
Alyssa Marie Marks, daughter of Judy & William Marks is the 2009-2010 recipient of the Frank Madden Memorial Scholarship. She was in band four years and was in the National honor Society for three years and was Vice President her senior year. Alyssa plans to attend A&M and plans to pursue a degree in Social Science.
Grace Castillo, daughter Guadalupe and Zeferino Castillo, is the 2009 – 2010 recipient of the Tom Sartain Memorial Scholarship. Grace ranked second in her class and was in athletics, Student Council, National Honors Society and received the President’s Gold Award. Grace plans on attending TJC to complete basics and then transfer to SFA with the goal of receiving her masters and becoming a CPA.
Nelsy Hernandez, daughter of Maria and Justo Hernandez, is the 2009 – 2010 recipient of the Judge Morris W. and Mauriete Hassell Memorial Scholarship. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council and a member of the UIL science team. After finishing her basic at TJC transferring to University of North Texas or Devry University to get a masters in Business.
Noel Dominy, son of Marylyn and Duane Dominy, is the recipient of the 2009 – 2010 of the Harmond and Laura Schochler Memorial Scholarship. During his four years in high school he participated in Marching, Symphonic and Concert Bands and was also in the Mentoring program. Noel plans to go into the nursing field and plans on receiving a BSN from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Jessica Russell, daughter of Julie and Michael Russell, is the recipient of the 2009 – 2010 Summers’ Family Scholarship in the Memory of Frank Summers. Band, basketball, volleyball and track are just a few school activities that Jessica has been active in along with receiving Presidents Award for education. She plans on majoring in Kinesiology and receiving her Masters in Physical Therapy.
Emily Marugg, daughter of Amiee Allen and Gary Marugg was the 2009 – 2010 recipient of the Paul and Alton Hubbard Memorial Scholarship. She played a flute in the high school band, placing first in solo and ensemble contest. Emily plans to study accounting with the goal of becausing a CPA after attending UT at Tyler.
Kelsey Palmer, daughter of Cathy and Stanley Palmer, is the first recipient of the Student Scholarship 2009 – 2010. Kelsey has been very active in all aspects of Journalism during her high school years and has also worked professionally in the field. She plans on first attending the University of North Texas and then moving to the University of Texas at Austin for graduate school to be a part of Texas Creative, as elite advertising program.
