MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 12, 2011 MEETING

at the September, 2011 RHSAA meeting and are subject to change.

The Rusk High School Alumni Association Board of Directors met on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 10:00 AM at Reta Dyess’s Catering Building, Gallatin, Texas.

Call to Order:
President Don Woodard called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. The meeting was opened with a prayer by Reta Dyess. Don thanked the board members present for attending the meeting. There were 12 members present and 5 members absent. Scott Schwartz, Ex Officio, was absent.

Purpose of the Meeting:
The purpose of the meeting is to continue the operation of the RHSAA.

Approval of Minutes:
The minutes of the November 6, 2010, meeting were approved. Larry Long made the motion to accept the minutes as presented and Don Jones seconded the motion.

Action of Treasurer’s Report:
Don Jones presented the total of the accounts as of December 31, 1010. Handouts were presented to the board members present. He announced that eleven scholarships will be funded to be awarded to graduating seniors of Rusk High School in May, 2011. The Teacher’s Memorial Scholarship fund has $14,782.75 which is short of the $20,000.00 required to fund the scholarship.

Membership:
Ann Russell had no report.

Correspondence:
Linda Risinger has recently accepted the role of Corresponding Secretary from Patricia Merchant. Note cards and records are being transferred to Linda. She will mail thank you notes to the people making recent memorial donations and new members shortly.

Publicity:
Wayne Guinn was absent from the meeting.

Unfinished Business:
A. Resolution to adapt By-Laws by majority of Board of Directors. Ann Russell stated the board had previously approved the By-Laws and there was not a need to vote on them a second time.

B. Total Membership – Ann Doggett presented a list of active and inactive members. There are total of 528 members, 466 are active and 62 are inactive as of February 1, 2011.

C. Resignation of Frances Lovelady Miles from the Board. – Donald Woodard will speak with Frances again to reaffirm her resignation from the board. There was discussion of reconsidering the position of David Crysup on the board. A motion was made by Judy Long Garner and seconded by Don Jones to appoint David to Frances’ position if she resigns.

D. Wilma Crippen made a motion to draw up requirements for appointments to the board. Linda Derrington seconded the motion.

E. Don Jones reported that the $860.00 was made on the raffle for the shotgun donated by Mike and David Crysup. Gloria Jennings was the winner of the shotgun.

F. Judy Garner mailed a thank you note to Barbara McCreight for her help with the Annual Chili Supper.

New Business:


A. President Woodard appointed Judy Garner to chair a committee to identify new money making ideas including mass emailing’s to notify members of raffles, chili supper, etc. Wayne Guinn and Linda Risinger will assist her.

B. President Woodard will ask Lesa Jones to reserve the Friday night of Homecoming for the RHSAA’s Annual Chili Supper.

C. Judy Garner volunteered to chair the Scholarship Committee. Also serving on the committee are Frances Long, Sue Jared, Patricia Ross, Arlene Frazer, Jan Evans, Shelta Norton Ethridge. The applications for the scholarships are to be available to the committee by the third week of March and they are due on April 29, 2011. The scholarships will be awarded at the Scholarship Banquet on May 17, 2011.

Next Meeting:
The next meeting of the RHSAA will be Saturday, April 16, 2100, at 10:00 AM at the Reta Dyess’ Catering Building in Gallatin. Board members will be notified by email if there is a change in date or place.
